Tuesday at the NBX Sailing Centre in Ningbo, Eabad Ali won bronze for India in the Asian Games Men’s Windsurfer RS:X competition.

Neha Thakur won the first sailing medal for India at the Asian Games 2023, but Eabad Ali quickly stole the show with a bronze in the men’s windsurfer RS:X division.

With a net score of 52, 29 year old Eabad Ali placed third, one spot behind South Korean Cho Wonwoo, who took home the gold, and Thailand’s Natthaphong Phonopparat, who earned silver with a score of 29.

Ali’s worst performances in the rigorous 14-race event were in the second and third races, where he failed to finish and lost seven points out of a possible 59. In the end, Ali and the silver medalist were separated by a chasm of 23 points.

Ali earned the bronze medal with a final score of 57. His second-place finishes in the sixth and fourteenth races at the Asian Games were also his best in the division. India has now bagged two medal in Sailing with Ali and Neha.

Anurag Thakur, the Union Sports Minister, commended Eabad Ali’s outstanding performance on the water after he won India’s second medal in the sailing competition at the 2023 Asian Games on Tuesday. Anurag Thakur praised Eabad on his official X (formerly known as Twitter) account for taking home the bronze in the Men’s Windsurfer RS:X competition. He wrote:

Smooth Sailing for Team India!! Kudos to Eabad Ali for securing bronze in the Men’s Windsurfer RS:X event at the #AsianGames2022.
