Following the shooting, Ryan’s father, Rodney Hinton Jr., allegedly ran over and killed veteran sheriff’s deputy Larry Henderson.
Attorneys with the Cochran Firm in Avondale said they have been hired to represent the estate of 18-year-old Ryan Hinton who was shot by an unnamed Cincinnati officer during a foot chase in East Price Hill Thursday. The following afternoon, Cincinnati police say Ryan’s father, age 38 Rodney Hinton Jr., drove a car into retired Hamilton County sheriff’s Deputy Larry Henderson who was directing traffic before a graduation ceremony at the University of Cincinnati.
Ryan Hinton shot dead
Cincinnati police fatally shot an 18-year-old man named Ryan Hinton on Thursday while attempting to arrest him and three others. According to reports, Ryan and the others were allegedly fleeing in a stolen car. Upon confronting them, the officers stated that Hinton fled on foot and appeared to point a handgun at them. One of the officers, a 10-year department veteran assigned to the Fugitive Apprehension Squad, reportedly fired four to five shots, hitting Hinton twice.
The police bodycam footage from the incident shows officers shouting that Hinton had a gun before opening fire moments later. However, despite the officer’s claims, the video doesn’t clearly show whether Hinton actually aimed a gun at the officers. Although police later recovered a handgun with an extended clip, Chief Teresa Theetge confirmed that the gun had not been fired. Following the shootout, officers rendered medical aid at the scene, but Hinton eventually died shortly after.

Ryan Hinton bio and age
Ryan Hinton was a Cincinnati resident who recently passed away following a police shootout. Hinton had just turned 18 years old just a few weeks before his death. While there is not much information available about him, his family described him as a fun-loving and kind young man. According to their attorney, Ryan was the type of teen who brought joy to all of those around him.
According to the police report, Ryan was reportedly one of four individuals found in a stolen vehicle. While the reports claim that he was armed and attempted to flee, his family believes that Ryan is incapable of such actions and is still searching for answers about the exact details of that day.
“My brother – he was always a real jokester, playing with everybody, making sure everybody was good,” Diamonte Jackson, Ryan’s elder brother, said.
Rodney Hinton Sr., Ryan’s grandfather meanwhile offered condolences to Deputy Henderson’s family and prayers for the officer who shot and killed his grandson.
“I seen in the video about my grandson, I seen two scared people, I seen the officer scared, and I seen my grandson scared. So it’s an unfortunate incident that happened,” Hinton Sr. said. “What I seen was two persons made a mistake. My grandson made a mistake of being there and the officer was trying to back to his family too. It’s not about revenge or anything.”
Ryan Hinton’s grandmother, Tonya Larkin said, “We are very close, very close family. This is killing us. I can’t even express how I feel right now about.. I’m angry because it should’ve never happened. I want to find out exactly what steps was taken and the protocol. And if everything comes out that it’s not what it should have been, we need to do something about change in training and diversity and understanding us as a black culture. We as black people, we don’t deserve to be killed just because we’re running away from the police. We’re scared just as much as they are, whether we did something right or wrong. This is everyday life for us. Being scared of the police. Take that in consideration.”
Damarlyn Howard, Ryan’s cousin meanwhile revealed Ryan was supposed to be home the night before he was shot and killed.
“He had no business being in a stolen car. He had a bed to come home to,” Howard said adding that Ryan had trouble getting into the family’s house so he slept in a car.
