Balraj Panwar undergoes training for Paris 2024 Olympics Games
Panwar is currently undergoing training at a camp in Gravelines, France. The Indian rower trains alongside his 25-year-old training partner Salman Khan, who is an Indian doubles sculls rower. While Salman isn’t set to compete in the Olympics, he is eager to play his part as a sparring partner. The duo is currently following individual training programs for the upcoming event.

Balraj Panwar is an Indian rower from Kaimla, Haryana who was born on July 26, 1999 in Kaimla village, Gharaunda Block, Karnal, Haryana. He currently competes in the men’s single sculls and qualified for the 2024 Summer Olympics in the men’s single sculls.
Balraj’s father Randhir passed away when he when he was 10 and his mother Kamla raised him and four other siblings by doing odd jobs such as picking vegetables, selling milk, working at construction sites or threshing wheat. She also worked in a garment factory.

Career
Balraj Panwar joined the Indian Army as a Sepoy to support his family financially. He received his first posting in the Bengal Engineering Group. Aside from his work as a soldier, Balraj has been preparing for the Olympics since October 2021 at the Army Training Node in Pune.
Panwar notably won the bronze medal at the Asia-Oceania Olympic Qualification Sailing Competition earlier this year, back on 21 April 2024 in Chungju, South Korea. In doing so, Balraj booked India’s first Olympic quota in sailing for the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics.
Balraj Panwar also took part in the World Championships in Switzerland in July 2023 ahead of the Asian Games. Notably, Panwar won the battalion regatta in his first attempt in the Army. He had previously participated in the 2022 National Games and the 2023 National Championships.
