His father’s name was Mechel Hoch and his mother’s name was Hannah Slomowitz. He had six siblings. After Hungary was occupied in 1944 by Nazi Germany, he escaped to France.
Maxwell married the French Protestant Elisabeth “Betty” Meynard in 1945. Over the course of the following 16 years, the couple welcomed nine children: Michael, Philip, Ann, Christine, Isabel, Karine, Ian, Kevin, and Ghislaine.
On November 5, 1991, he died in the sea around the Canary Islands, Spain. He was 68 years old when he died.
