On July 14, the ambitious Chandrayaan Mission-3 was launched by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). It was launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh, and is scheduled to touch down on the moon’s surface on August 23 or 24. 

The task of setting Chandrayaan on the moon is being handled by Ritu Karidhal. Ritu Karidhal, a native of Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, is referred to as the “Rocket Woman of India.” Because of Ritu’s extensive background in the space industry, ISRO appointed Ritu as the mission director of Chandrayaan-3. 

Karidhal had been facilitated by ISRO’s Young Scientist Awards.

Ritu Karidhal is Lucknow’s Children

Ritu Karidhal lives in Rajajipuram but is originally from Lucknow. She received her early education at Lucknow’s St. Agnese School. She then pursued her education at Navyug Kanya Vidyalaya. Ritu came to Indian Institutes of Science in Bangalore to pursue an MTech in Aerospace Engineering after receiving her MSc in Physics from Lucknow University.

Ritu Karidhal Leaves Ph.D. For ISRO

After completing her MTech, Ritu Karidhal began her PHD and began working as a part-time professor at a college. In 1997, however, she reportedly applied for a position with ISRO. She was able to grab a position at ISRO because of her immense knowledge.

Karidhal had to leave PHD in order to take the job, but she wasn’t prepared for it. When Professor Manisha Gupta, under whose direction she was completing her PhD, learned about this, she urged Ritu to join ISRO.

Ritu Karidhal Played A Crucial Role In The Mangalyaan Mission

Ritu Karidhal had her initial assignment at the UR Rao Satellite Centre. Everyone was amazed by her performance here. In 2007, she was given the ISRO Young Scientist Award. During this time, the Mangalyaan expedition was set to get underway. 

Ritu Karidhal explained in an interview that when she was unexpectedly informed that she was now a part of the Mangalyaan expedition, it was frightening for her but also encouraging because she had joined such a large project.

Ritu Karidhal’s Chandrayaan-3 Mission

The Chandrayaan-2 mission was led by Ritu Karidhal. Ritu will also be in charge of the Chandrayaan-3 mission, as ISRO decided in 2020 based on her experience. P. Veeramuthuvel is the project director for this expedition. In addition, M. Vanitha, the Chandrayaan-2 mission’s project director, has been given the duty of deputy director for this mission and is in charge of the payload and data management.

Ritu Karidhal Credits Her Success To Her Family

Ritu Karidhal’s family consists of two brothers, a sister, and one brother who resides in Rajajipuram, Lucknow. Avinash Srivastava, a Titan Industries employee in Bangalore, is married to Ritu; the couple has two children together: a son named Aditya and a daughter named Anisha.

Her salary at ISRO isn’t known.

She attributes her achievement to her family. In an interview, Ritu stated that her family is aware of the significance of her missions. 

When asked about her husband’s support, she said, “I don’t have to worry about him because he assists me in every way.”
