The event occurred in hotel room 306 at approximately 9:45 p.m. on January 27, according to the police investigation report. But on Sunday, the next day, after learning about the incident, police detained Rishabh Nigam, the culprit. Both Rishabh and Vandana are from Lucknow; however, Vandana relocated to Pune for employment. Vandana and Rishabh used to reside in the same neighbourhood before migrating to Pune.

Why was Vandana Dwivedi killed by Rishabh Nigam?

The police report states that Rishabh and Vandana began dating in 2014. Before this, police had conjectured that Rishabh killed Vandana Dwivedi because he thought she was ignoring him. Nonetheless, the authorities pledged to ascertain the exact cause of the murder.

The officials claim that on January 25, Rishabh booked a hotel room. And later on, on Friday, January 26, Vandana went to the hotel to meet him. They added that they had heated arguments on Saturday night, and Rishabh then shot Vandana, hitting her in the head and chest, which claimed her life.

Official statement

“Our team discovered the victim’s body in room 306 with bullet injuries,” the assistant commissioner of police said. He continued by saying that even though the accused left the hotel on Saturday between 9:30 and 10 p.m. and the victim arrived the following day, both the suspect and the victim had reservations beginning at roughly 9:30 p.m. on January 25. The hotel’s register was examined to find this information.

Because of the Maratha reservation decision, loud music was playing and people were blasting firecrackers; thus, the hotel staff was unaware of the firing sound. The Police Commissioner claims that although hotel employees were aware of the firing sound, they chose to ignore it due to the commotion produced by firecrackers outside the hotel.
