Rinky Chakma passes away
Rinky Chakma, who notably won the Femina Miss India Tripura 2017, passed away on February 28, 2024. Following her death, the Miss India Organisation confirmed the tragic news on the pageant’s official page while also sharing their condolences. The organisation stated:
With profound sadness, we share the news of the passing of Rinky Chakma, Femina Miss India Tripura 2017. A remarkable woman, Rinky was truly a force to be reckoned with, embodying grace and purpose. Representing Tripura at the Femina Miss India 2017 pageant, she was honored with the title of Miss Beauty with a Purpose, a testament to her impactful endeavors and compassionate spirit.”
The organisation further stated their heartfelt condolences to her family and friends while wishing her soul find eternal peace.
Cause of death
According to various reports, Chakma was previously diagnosed with malignant phyllodes tumor (breast cancer) back in 2022 and eventually succumbed to the disease. One of her friends, Priyanka Kumari, confirmed that Chakma was admitted to Max Hospital, Saket, Delhi, on February 22, following an emergency when one of her lungs almost stopped working.

Rinky Chakma was an Indian beauty model who hails from the northeastern state of Tripura. She was born to an Indian Army father, and has three other siblings—one brother and two sisters.
She obtained her early education from Eklavya Model Residential School, in Tripura and then graduated with sociology honours from the IGNOU Agartala Center. Rinky gained nation-wide prominence after winning the Femina Miss India Tripura back in 2017. She also won the title of Miss Beauty with a Purpose. She was born in 1994 and was aged 30.
Battle with cancer
In an Instagram post, Rinky Chakma shared about her battle with cancer. She wrote about how she first got diagnosed with malignant phyllodes tumor, and following her initial operation, the cancer eventually spread to her skull, and then her lungs. While sharing about her disease, she also requested that her followers donate money so that she could continue her treatment with chemo sessions. She was hopeful of getting brain surgery as well.

Following the beauty model’s tragic death, friends and celebrities have started pouring in with tributes and condolences. Indian actress Celina Jaitly commented:
My deepest condolences to Rinky’s family. The world and India has lost a northeastern jewel, truly shocked to hear of her passing. The heavens have a new angel.”
Indian actress and model Neha Dupia also commented with a heartbroken emoji.
Fellow beauty model Kaheli Chophy stated:
