In the Women’s 10m Air Rifle Individual competition at the ongoing 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou on Sunday, Indian shooter Ramita Jindal won the bronze medal with outstanding accuracy and steadfast focus.

The 19-year-old, who is an accounts student, finished behind Huang Yuting and Han Jiayu of China with a final score of 230.1. Throughout the championship, Jindal was in medal contention and briefly held the lead in the race. She even tied for second place after the first 10 shots, right before the elimination round began, with Lee Eunseo of South Korea and Yesugen Oyunbat of Mongolia.

Jindal began her shooting career in 2016 when her tax adviser father Arvind Jindal brought her to the Karan Shooting Range in Kurukshetra. She is coached by Jagbir Singh as per the Indian Express report.

Right from studying in the 8th standard in school, Ramita’s fondness grew towards Rifle shooting and she began her career at 13 years and her shooting journey began in 2016.

At the World Championship in Cairo, Egypt last year, Ramita, the youngster from Haryana defeated Shen Ying of China for the junior women’s air rifle gold, 16–12. When the gold match was tied 12-12, Ramita fired 10.8 and 10.7 to win it while the Chinese countered with 9.8 and 10.6. After eventual bronze medalist Tilottama Sen won qualification with a score of 633.4, Ramita took first place in the second phase of the competition.

Talking about the Asian Games 2023, as Indian shooters made a good start to their Asian Games campaign in China, the experienced trio of Mehuli Ghosh, Ramita Jindal, and Ashi Chouksey’s won the women’s team silver along with Ramita’s individual bronze in the 10m air rifle event.

As per devdiscourse site, Indian trio finished in second place behind hosts China, who broke the Asian record with a score of 1,896.6, with a total score of 1,886.0. Ramita came in second with a qualifying score of 631.9, and Mehuli placed fourth with a score of 630.8.With a little off-target performance of 623.3, the third Indian, Ashi, placed 28th in the qualification round.

The trio’s entire effort, nevertheless, was enough to earn them silver and lift the Indian team’s spirits as they aim to add to their nine medals from the most recent Games in Jakarta and Palembang.
