Richard Dale Crum is 52 years old and has been in trouble with the law before. In 2016, he was arrested for using a gun in a case of domestic violence. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation has been asked to help with the investigation, and so has the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. The shootings are the first mass murder in the country since January 23, when the last of six murders in three weeks took place.

Investigators from the sheriff’s office and the state are trying to figure out why Richard Dale did this terrible thing. Arkabutla is a small town with only 285 people living there, and the shooting has shocked everyone there. People often go to the nearby Arkabutla Lake to fish and relax.
