Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea sends off Vinicius Jr. with a red card
The incident took place in the final minutes of the Real Madrid vs Valencia La Liga match on Sunday. Ricardo showed Vinicius a red card after he got embroiled in a physical confrontation with several Valencia players. Vinicius allegedly raised his hand to Hugo Duro’s face.
Ricardo’s official report described that Vinicius was shown a red card for:
Hitting an opponent’s face with his arm when the ball was not in play, in a massive confrontation between players from both teams”
However, Vinicius claims to have been put in a headlock and been the victim of alleged racial abuse by opposing fans during the incident. Valencia fans were reportedly slandering racist chants at Vinicius in the stands. Interestingly, Ricardo’s did not mention anything about this matter.
While speaking at the post-game interview, Vinicius Jr said:
It wasn’t the first time, nor the second, nor the third.
“Racism is normal in La Liga. In football, they think it’s normal, the federation does too and the opponent encourages it. I’m so sad.
“The championship that once belonged to Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Cristiano and Messi today belongs to racism.”
