Anthony Taylor is a professional English football referee born on 20 October 1978, in Wythenshawe, Manchester, UK. He is currently 44 years old. He got promoted to the list of Select Group Referees in 2010, a group which officiates primarily in the Premier League. Taylor also became a listed referee for FIFA in 2013, which allows him to referee European and international matches.

Anthony Taylor began his career as a referee in the Northern Premier League back in 2002. He then progressed to officiate in the Conference North in 2004. Anthony Taylor was eventually appointed to join the Football League referees’ list ahead of the 2006–07 season. One of the most prominent matches that he officiated was the match between Wrexham and Peterborough United in a League Two match back in August 2006.

Later that same year in November, Taylor refereed an international under-19s friendly match between England  vs Switzerland at Gresty Road. Eventually in 2010, Anthony Taylor got promoted to the list of Select Group Referees. This group of referees primarily officiates in the Premier League.

In 2013 Anthony Taylor became a listed referee for FIFA, which allowed him to referee European and international matches. Another prominent match that Anthony Taylor officiated was the Football League Cup final in 2015. The match took place at the Wembley Stadium where Chelsea won 2-0 over Tottenham Hotspur.

Anthony Taylor also notably refereed the 2017 and 2020 FA Cup finals. Both the matches were between Chelsea and Arsenal, and interestingly, Arsenal won 2-1 on both occasions. One of Taylor’s most notable moments came in October 2021, when he was chosen to referee the 2021 UEFA Nations League Final between Spain and France.

The following year in May 2022, FIFA made a pronouncement listing Anthony Taylor as one of six English officials to oversee matches at the November and December Qatar World Cup.
