According to authorities, a Ugandan athlete Rebecca Cheptegei who lives in Kenya was attacked and set on fire by her boyfriend.

Ugandan athlete Rebecca Cheptegei is currently undergoing treatment for burns covering 75% of her body at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Edloret.

Attacked in her home in western Trans Nzoia County, Rebecca Cheptegei is a distance runner who placed 44th in the 2024 Paris Olympics. According to media reports, she was in critical condition as of Tuesday.

Following an argument on Sunday, Dickson Ndiema, Cheptegei’s lover, bought a jerrican of gasoline, poured it on her, and lit her on fire, according to a statement made on Monday by Trans Nzoia County Police Commander Jeremiah ole Kosiom.

On February 22, 1991, 33-year-old Rebecca Cheptegei was born in Uganda and has a height of 1.66m. In September 2024, Rebecca Cheptegei finds herself in a severe state in a Kenyan hospital after her ex-partner’s dousing her in gasoline and setting her on fire.

The 33-year-old had finished in 44th place in the marathon at the Paris Olympics and had also won gold at the World Mountain and Trail Running.

At the 38th IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Myslecinek Park, Rebecca Cheptegei was placed fifteenth. In May 2010, she won the 1500-meter event in the Munich Pfingstmeeting.

Two days later, Rebecca was placed ninth in the 800-meter race at the Rehlingen Pfingstsportfest. She was a participant at the Regensburg Sparkassen-Gala in 1500m category and was placed fifteenth. In Warszawa, Cheptegei participated in 1500-meter Janusz Kusociล„ski Memorial race.

In the senior race final of 39th IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Punta Umbria, Rebecca finished in 55th place to kick off 2011. At the Madrid Half Marathon, Cheptegei got placed second. Cheptegei was placed fourteenth in the Huelva, Meeting Iberoamericano de Atletismo, Huelva 5000 meters.

Rebbeca came 12th in the Shanghai Half Marathon and this was her first race of the year. She then went and was placed second in the 5 km and 10,000 m races at the Ugandan Championship in Kampala. Rebecca finished the Brazzaville Half Marathon at fourth position.

Cheptegei came second in the 10,000 meters in the Ugandan Championships which were held at the Mandela National Stadium in Kampala and won the Padova Marathon. She was placed fourth in the ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon at the conclusion of the year.
