Andriy Lunin is a Ukrainian footballer. He has been in the news because he was instrumental in stopping Barcelona’s efforts to win the Spanish Super Cup.
His full name is Andriy Oleksiyovych Lunin. He was born on 11 February 1999 in Krasnohrad, Ukraine. His father’s name is Oleksii Lunin; however, not much is known about his other family members.
He attended FC Metalist Youth Sportive School, where Oleksandr Khrabrov served as the first trainer, and FC Dnipro Youth Sportive School Systems, where Kostiantyn Pavliuchenko was the first trainer.
He is married, and his wife’s name is Anastasia Nastasica.
His height is 6 feet 3 inches, or 1.91 meters, and his weight is 176 lbs, or 80 kg. He is currently 24 years old.
His career
The football career of Andriy Lunin began in the youth systems of FC Metalist and FC Dnipro, where he was coached by Oleksandr Khrabrov and Kostiantyn Pavliuchenko and showed early potential.
He joined FC Dnipro’s reserves in 2016 after graduating, and at the age of 17, he quickly established himself as the starting goalkeeper. Due to financial difficulties, the team was demoted, which made Lunin go to FC Zorya Luhansk for the 2017–18 campaign.
In June 2018, Real Madrid signed him, making him the first Ukrainian to play for the esteemed team. Before making his debut with Real Madrid’s senior squad in the Copa del Rey against Alcoyano on January 20, 2021, he had loan stints at Real Valladolid and CD Leganés.
On the international front, Lunin made his debut for the Ukraine national team at the age of 19. He was awarded the Golden Glove as the best goalkeeper of the tournament in 2019 after playing a crucial part in Ukraine U20’s historic FIFA U-20 World Cup win.
