DIDE releases new rap song
Prior to the new release, the unknown artist dropped a one-minute freestyle showcasing his talents earlier this year. Now the rapper has released a new song last week, which has taken the football world by storm.
The new song is titled ‘Thrill,’ and it is described as giving an insight into his life behind the scenes.
The music video has a brief description, which states:
Our talented artist dives deep into the emotional turmoil and struggles he keeps hidden from the fans”.
“From behind his mysterious rose mask, he proves himself an incredible lyricist, exploring identity, inequality, and modern society in astonishing detail.”
Fans make speculations
DIDE is not the first footballer to step into the realm of music. The most well-known footballer to do the same is arguably Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies who featured in Nur Weil’s song, ‘STUGANG’.
In the UK scene, Matt Robinson, a Dagenham & Redbridge midfielder has been releasing music as an MC, Kamakaze. Robinson has racked up over an impressive 225 thousand monthly listeners on Spotify.
He was also nominated for Best Grime Act at the 2022 MOBO awards. Aside from that, he has gone on to feature in music videos with some of the UK’s current biggest rappers like Dave and AJ Tracey.
However, unlike these other artists, DIDE chooses to his identity hidden by wearing a mask in his music videos. As such, this has prompted fans to make speculations over who he really is.
Notably, some fans have pointed out how the video highlights numerous shots of London. As such, there are some assumptions that the rapper must play for a London-based team. Some of the suggested players are Arsenal’s Reiss Nelson, Chelsea’s Noni Madueke, Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha, and also Brentford’s Josh Dasilva.
Is DIDE, Eddie Nketiah?
Aside from all the names suggested above, one player seems to be consistently mentioned, and that is Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah.
To support the claim, one Twitter user commented about it by analyzing parts of the song. The user wrote:
“If you haven’t seen it already, an ‘unknown’ Premier League footballer has just dropped a new track. However, he’s not unknown to most of us; it’s Eddie Nketiah.”
He further shared how lyrics like “my team stay winnin’” and “they’re gonna (gunner) put it in the paper” give the game away.
Some other fans have also used the logic in the comments of the music video, and while some believe that ‘DIDE’ is simply an anagram for Eddie.
