On Wednesday, a young person who was receiving treatment for possible food poisoning passed away in Kochi, Kerala with Rahul D Nair dead after eating shawarma 

Rahul D. Nair, 24, of Teekoy, Kottayam, is the deceased. The cause of death cannot be determined until test results from Rahul’s internal organs are released, according to hospital officials.

24 year old Rahul D Nair had been battling for life since Saturday after he was hospitalised with symptoms of food poisoning and according to the police, a case has been registered against the owner of Le Hayat restaurant, which had delivered shawarma to Rahul, an employee at the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Kochi, on October 18.

Living in Chittethukara with his buddies, Rahul worked in the special finance sector. According to his family, Rahul ordered shawarma, an Arabic roll loaded with meat, online from the Le Hyatt Hotel in Mavelipuram and fell asleep on October 18. On October 19, Rahul sought therapy and then went home. On October 22, though, he was readmitted to the hospital after claiming to be weak.

Rahul was rushed to the emergency room on Sunday at 10.30 a.m. in a cardiac arrest state, according to a medical bulletin released by the Sunrise Hospital in Kakkanad. Since October 19, the patient has experienced fever and loose stools. The severely shocked patient was placed on a ventilator after being treated. He was receiving care from a multidisciplinary group. The patient had multi-organ failure syndrome and acute septicemia symptoms. The patient’s health worsened despite the doctors’ best efforts, and on October 25 at 2:55 pm, the medical bulletin said, the patient was pronounced dead.

Police have filed a complaint

It is evident that the patient died of food poisoning. However, to be sure whether the shawarma was the reason, we will need to wait for the test results. Rahul had a heart attack and his kidney and liver were damaged, according to medical officials.

In the meantime, the police filed a complaint against the restaurant’s proprietor, and the Thrikkakara Municipal Corporation closed the eatery per the health department’s orders. Despite conducting a combined inspection, the police forensic unit and the food safety department were unable to obtain a sample of the shawarma made that day.

A sample of the restaurant’s food has been sent out for analysis. The relevant authorities have been instructed by Health Minister Veena George to provide a report as soon as possible. Later thereafter, Rahul will be cremated. Father K K Divakaran Nair, mother M P Silvy, siblings Karthik and Bhavya, and other family members are survived by him.
