Rahul Chetry, the main accused in the horrific Dibrugarh University (DU) ragging case has finally surrendered to the police after being on the run for 8 days after the video of Anand Sharma went viral
Rahul was reportedly the main accused in a recent ragging case in DU where a first semester student was brutally beaten up.

Anand Sharma, the victim in the recent ragging case is a first semester MCom student at Dibrugarh University.
The Horrific DU Ragging Case
On the evening of November 26, 2022, Rahul Chetry and some of his friends tied up Anand Sharma and brutally beat him up until the early hours of November 27. Following the ghastly ordeal, Anand somehow managed to escape by jumping off from the second floor.
Anand was then rushed to the hospital where he is now recovering after undergoing a serious backbone surgery.
Police And University Conduct Joint Investigations
After everyone came to know about the horrific incident, the police along with the university officials conduct a joint investigation. The Assam government also release magisterial enquiries into the case.
Following the quick response from authorities, police were able to arrest three accused students on the night of 27th itself. Following continued investigations, Kalyan Dutta another accused surrendered himself just a day ago. So far, police have arrested around 7 students in connection with the case, while others are still on the run.
Rahul who is the main accused in the case is now the latest to have finally surrendered himself as well. He surrendered himself to Lekhapani Police located in Tinsukia district, Assam on Monday morning. The police then shifted him to Dibrugarh police station, where he is currently being held.
University Fires Three Wardens
Further investigations revealed that the victim, Anand, had initially written a letter of complaint to the warden of Block C of the PNGB hostel on November 17. Moreover, there were reportedly three more ragging cases going on in the hostel besides the one involving Anand.
Following the findings, the University has decided to relief the three wardens of the PNGB hostel from their duties as they failed to deal with the incident before it got out of hand.
