Who is Rafael Cordeiro?
Rafael Cordeiro is a Brazilian mixed martial arts (MMA) coach and the owner of Kings MMA Gym. He was born on June 1, 1973 in Curitiba, Brazil. The 50-year-old stands 5-ft 10 in and weights 155 lb (70 kg; 11.1 st).
A look at Rafael Cordeiro’s career
Rafael’s work as an MMA world champion trainer is what made him most famous. Cordeiro was a fighter who trained in Muay Thai and mixed martial arts at the Chute Boxe Academy. He won the lightweight division at the International Vale Tudo Championship (IVC) and the Brazilian Muay Thai championship three times.
After quitting professional competition in 1999, Cordeiro began working as a full-time coach at Chute Boxe, a position he held until 2009. He relocated to the US in 2008, and in Huntington Beach, California, he founded Kings MMA, his own gym, in 2010.
He had previously worked as an instructor at the “Chute Boxe Academy” in Brazil before he and partner Ricardo Testai opened the Kings MMA facility.
In 2012 and 2016, Cordeiro was named the MMA Coach of the Year. When Mike Tyson, a former heavyweight boxing champion, faced Roy Jones Jr. in an exhibition match in 2020, Cordeiro served as his trainer and cornerman.
The coach has trained fighters like Anderson Silva, Mauricio Rua, Fabricio Werdum, Rafel dos Anjos, Cris Cyborg, and Lyoto Machida, the former UFC Champions.
