Arshdeep Bains is a Canadian professional ice hockey player who was born on January 9, 2001, in Surrey, Canada. He currently plays as a left winger for the Vancouver Canucks of the National Hockey League (NHL). While growing up as a young boy in Surrey, British Columbia, Arshdeep honed his skills by playing mini-sticks and road hockey with his older brothers.
He eventually made the transition to organized hockey and played in competitive hockey with the Burnaby Winter Club Bruins. During his time with them, he was the top scorer in tournaments like the Bell Capital Cup. Bains subsequently moved to the Delta Hockey Academy, where he further refined his skills to establish himself even further.

Although he showed a lot of promise at an early age, Arshdeep still had a tough time in the initial parts of his professional career. After getting passed over in the Western Hockey League (WHL) draft, he stayed strong and chose to attend rookie camps. He eventually earned a spot with the Red Deer Rebels, a WHL team. Although he initially started slow, he closed the season with a notable 112 points (43 G and 69 A) in just 68 games.
Bains had an impressive journey throughout his junior hockey career consistently impressing everyone with his offense. He set various personal records and earned trophies like the BCMML’s ‘Player of the Month’. He also won the WHL Scoring Champion for the 2021–22 season and he also became the first player of South Asian descent to win the Bob Clarke Trophy. All this hard work and dedication eventually paid off when Arshdeep Bain signed an entry-level contract with the Vancouver Canucks.
After signing with them, he began his professional journey with the Abbotsford Canucks, the team’s American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate. While playing there, he scored his first professional goal during his debut game. Following a successful season in the AHL, the Vancouver Canucks eventually gave Bains a call-up to the NHL. He recently made his debut with the Vancouver Canucks on February 20, 2024, in a game against the Colorado Avalanche.

Back on March 11, 2022, Arshdeep Bains signed an entry-level contract deal with the Vancouver Canucks. Following this contract, Bains will earn a salary of $825,000, with a cap hit of $816,667 for the 2023-24 season. This amount breaks down to $50,000 in signing bonuses and $775,000 in base salary. Aside from this season’s earnings, Bains will earn a total of $2,450,000 from his contract. If he doesn’t sign a new contract, Bains will enter restricted free agency (RFA) following the 2024-25 season.
