During the fast-tracked round of the auction, the Punjab team was keen to acquire some uncapped Indian players. They bought Ashutosh Sharma and Vishwanath Pratap Singh at their basic rates, and when no other team wanted to play, they turned their focus to Shashank.
There was a last-minute twist since there was a complete commotion on the PBKS table because they didn’t want the player. Punjab Kings co-owner Preity Zinta was spotted interacting with her entourage just before quickly lifting the paddle when 32-year-old Shashank Singh’s name was mentioned in the last round.
Nevertheless, the Kings didn’t discover their error until the auctioneer Mallika Sagar went on to the next group of players. “It was a wrong name? You don’t want the player?.” When the franchise representatives at the auction voiced their concerns, Mallika was overheard asking questions. “We are talking about Shashank Singh. But the hammer has come down. Player No. 236 and 237 both went to you.”
When Ness Wadia, another franchise owner, also voiced his disapproval of the deal, Mallika vowed to stick to her stance, “I think the hammer has come down for 237 (Shashank).”

Meanwhile, the IPL club provided clarification on their official site. They wrote:
We always wanted Shashank Singh on our roster unlike what the media have reported. There was another Shashank Singh on the list because of which there was a slight confusion.”

At around 7.47pm Indian time, the other Shashank Singh a Bengal player aged 19 was up for bidding, and went unsold with Punjab then going onto buy 32 year old Shashak from Punjab.

32 year old Shashank Singh is an Indian cricket player who plays for Chhattisgarh and was born on November 21, 1991 in Bhilai, Chhattisgarh.
A look at Shashank Singh’s career
On December 10, 2015, he participated in the 2015–16 Vijay Hazare Trophy and made his List A debut. For 10 lakhs, he was acquired by the Delhi Daredevils squad in February 2017 in preparation for the 2017 Indian Premier League.
He was acquired by the Rajasthan Royals in December 2018 during the player auction for the 2019 Indian Premier League. On December 9, 2019, he made his debut in the 2019–20 Ranji Trophy for Chhattisgarh.
