The incident occurred on February 22 at the KMC-affiliated Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital (MGMH), where she was a student. The KMC administration has come under fire from Preethi’s family for allegedly failing to act on their daughter’s accusations of harassment against Saif, a second-year postgraduate student.
Preethi is also said to have experienced caste prejudice and racial bullying. However, officials at medical colleges have refuted these claims. But her death has sparked widespread protests in the city, with many student groups and political parties alleging foul play in her death.
Her father also refused to take her corpse and demanded a detailed report, a government job for one of the family members, and Rs 5 crore. Preethi Dharavath was a medical student who committed suicide after allegedly experiencing harassment and bullying at her college.
She was a native of Girni Thanda, a tribal village in the Jangaon district of Telangana. Her father’s name is Narender Dharavath, a sub-inspector in the Railway Police Force (RPF) in Warangal district. She also has an elder sister named Puja and a brother named Vamshi Dharawath.
She was doing her postgraduation at Kakatiya Medical College (KMC) in Warangal, Telangana.
She was 26 years old when she died.
How did she die?
Preethi Dharavath apparently had multiple organ failures before being declared brain dead, although the cause of death was not officially stated.
She had allegedly been harassed by a second-year student, Dr. Md. Saif, due to which she injected herself with an unknown substance in Warangal’s Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital. She was sent to NIMS on Wednesday after suffering from two cardiac arrest events.
According to the hospital’s numerous reports, she has been in a critical state for the previous four days and has continued to receive ECMO, a ventilator, and dialysis. However, she apparently lost her life’s battle. She is not on Instagram.
