Parida left the law field to enter politics. She was the president of the BJP’s women’s branch in Odisha before that. She is an OBC Hindu.


In the most recent state assembly elections, Pravati Parida who is a lawyer by profession became the winner in the Nimapara constituency by defeating twelve rivals to take the seat. With 4,588 votes from Nimapara, Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida defeated BJD leader Dilip Kumar Nayak.

Mohan Charan Majhi, a well-known tribal leader and four-time MLA from Keonjhar, was named the new Chief Minister of Odisha by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday.

Under the watchful eyes of Union ministers Rajnath Singh and Bhupendra Yadav, Majhi’s candidature was approved following talks with top leaders and recently elected MPs and MLAs during a BJP legislature party meeting.

“Delighted to announce that Shri Mohan Charan Majhi has been elected unanimously as the leader of Odisha BJP Legislature Party. He is a young and dynamic party karyakarta who will take the state forward on road to progress and prosperity as the new Chief Minister of Odisha. Many congratulations to him,” Singh said on X.

After Naveen Patnaik of the BJD ruled the state for 24 years, the BJP is expected to take it. The BJD won 51 seats in the 147-member Odisha Assembly while the BJP won 78 seats in the most recent elections.
