Pratap Sarangi, a BJP MP, suffered significant injuries in a nasty altercation that broke out on the grounds of Parliament on Thursday.

Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, was held accountable for the incident by the injured MP Pratap Sarangi.

When INDIA bloc MPs confronted BJP lawmakers who were protesting, claiming that the Congress had insulted Babasaheb Ambedkar, demanding an apology and resignation from Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his comments about Ambedkar in the Rajya Sabha, BJP MP Pratap Sarangi was hurt in the commotion outside Parliament.

To visit the injured MPs, Union Ministers Pralhad Joshi and Shivraj Singh Chouhan hurried to RML Hospital. The injured MP has received sutures, according to Chouhan.

BJP MPs Pratap Singh and Mukesh Rajput were pushed, Kiren Rijiju, the minister of parliamentary affairs, told reporters.

He said, “They (Opposition) protest every day. They have been indulging in sloganeering etc every day, For the first time, BJP MPs were protesting at Makar Dwar today. They were protesting against the misinformation being spread by Congress.”

Sarangi was accused of involvement in the 1999 murder of Australian Christian missionary Graham Staines and his two sons and was the leader of the Bajrang Dal when a mob, with links to the group, burnt Staines and his two minor sons alive. Sarangi was also arrested for rioting and damaging government property after a 2002 attack on the Odisha state assembly.

On January 4, 1955, Pratap Chandra Sarangi was born into a Brahmin Hindu family in the village of Gopinathpur, Nilagiri, Balasore to Gobinda Chandra Sarangi. He is 5ft 5in tall. In 1975, he earned his bachelor of arts degree from Utkal University’s Fakir Mohan College in Balasore. His current net worth stands at Rs.49 lakhs and he has a total of nine criminal cases registered against him.

He is single and unmarried and doesn’t have any children.

69-year-old Sarangi had been a spiritual seeker since he was a young child. His goal was to enter the Ramakrishna Math as a monk.

Pratap Sarangi career

Pratap Sarangi first worked for the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal, and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh as a district-level volunteer. He established Samar Kara Kendra, a school for the underprivileged, in tribal villages in Balasore and Mayurbhanj District as part of the Gana Shikhsa Mandir Yojana.

Working as a Head Clerk at Nilgiri College in Nilgiri, Balasore, Odisha, takes up the most of his life. He again ran as a BJP candidate in the 2014 Indian general election, losing the Balasore Lok Sabha seat. He ran as a BJP candidate in the 2019 Indian general election from the Balasore Lok Sabha seat, defeating incumbent MP Rabindra Kumar Jena, who was running for the Biju Janata Dal.

In May 2019, Sarangi was appointed Union Minister of State for the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises and the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying.
