The ED initiated its probe in September 2021, when it conducted a raid at Purkayastha’s premises. The scope of the operation included Directors and shareholders from eleven organizations in the Delhi NCR region, as well as the offices of NewsClick Studio and its affiliated firms.
These activities were carried out in accordance with the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The newest move is an extension of the ED’s ongoing inquiry into possible money laundering at the news outlet.
The research revealed that Neville Roy Singham of Worldwide Holdings LLC and Prabir Purkayastha, who is a Director at NewsClick, had been in contact since 2017. Interestingly, when questioned, Purkayastha reportedly professed ignorance about Navielle’s company.
