Pooja Singh wins gold at 2025 Asian Athletics Championships
India’s Pooja Singh secured a well-deserved gold at the 2025 Asian Athletics Championships in high jump after clearing 1.89m. Pooja’s win marks India’s first gold in the event since Bobby Aloysius’s victory back in 2000. During the final of the competition, Pooja managed to better her own U-20 national record and outjumped strong rivals from Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.

Pooja Singh is a young and upcoming Indian athlete who was born on February 21, 2007, in Bosti village, Haryana. Singh comes from very humble beginnings, with her father, Hansraj, working as a construction laborer. Despite the family’s financial constraints, Pooja has shone through with her talents and hard work. At an early age, Pooja showed promise and under her coach Balwan Singh’s guidance and determination, she has emerged as a formidable athlete.

Career and achievements
Pooja Singh started out her high jump journey under coach Balwan Singh at the Para Sports Academy. She managed to win her first gold in the under-14 category with a 1.41m jump and then secured another gold at the Junior Nationals in 2022, with a national record of 1.76m. She then followed up with another gold at the 2022 Under-18 Youth National Championships.
Later in April 2023, Pooja won another gold at the Asian U18 Athletics Championships in Tashkent, and just two months later, she won a silver at the 20th Asian U20 Athletics Championships in Yecheon, South Korea. Just three months later, in July 2023, Pooja competed in the Asian Athletics Championships in Bangkok, where she finished seventh with a 1.75m jump. Pooja has continued to rise in the sport, winning several other achievements, and most recently won a gold in high jump in the 2025 Asian Athletics Championships, her biggest achievement to date.
