Who is Ewa Swoboda?
Ewa Swoboda began her athletic career at a young age and joined the UKS Czwรณrka ลปory athletics club, where she trained under coach Iwona Krupa. Notably, Ewa won the Polish youth 100-meter titles in 2011 and 2012 and secured the national indoor junior 200-meter title in 2013. Swoboda made her international debut at the 2013 World Youth Championships, finishing fourth in the 100 meters with a time of 11.61 seconds.
Swoboda’s senior career began in 2015 when she won her first senior national title at the Polish Indoor Championships and set a European junior record in the 60 meters with a time of 7.21 seconds. At the 2015 European Athletics Indoor Championships, she made the 60-meter final and improved her record to 7.20 seconds, matching the fastest time by a Polish woman in the competition’s history.
On February 11, 2022, she set a new Polish national record in the 60 meters with a time of 7.00 seconds, which she later improved to 6.99 seconds at the Polish Indoor Championships. She finished fourth at the 2022 World Indoor Championships with a time of 7.04 seconds. In 2023, Swoboda ran her first sub-11 second 100 meters at the Diamond League meeting in Chorzรณw, clocking 10.94 seconds.
On a personal note, Swoboda was previously in a relationship with shot putter Konrad Bukowiecki and, as of 2023, is dating athlete Krzysztof Kiljan. Previously, she has spoken about facing hate speech and contemplating quitting the sport. Besides her athletic skills, Swoboda was also selected as one of nine new Barbie doll models representing athletes ahead of the Olympic Games.
