On Monday, July 17, in Las Vegas, poker player Daniel Weinman from Atlanta took first place in the Main Event of the World Series of Poker (WSOP), collecting $12.1 million.

Weinman won the competition in what was supposedly his 16th consecutive year, topping a field of 10,043 competitors and vying for almost $93.39 million. Additionally, the poker pro beat the previous record for the biggest payout, which was $12 million earned by Jamie Gold in the Main Event in 2006.
After 164 hands at the final table, the 35-year-old won. While Adam Walton took third place with a $4 million prize, Steven Jones finished in second place and earned $6.5 million. Jan-Peter Jachtmann, who finished fourth and won $3 million, reportedly played at Weinman’s final table.
Who is Daniel Weinman?
The 2023 World Series of Poker Main Event was won by Atlanta, Georgia native Weinman, a professional poker player. He was born on February 3rd, 1988, and graduated from Georgia Tech with a degree in mechanical engineering in 2009.
Weinman apparently worked as an engineer before starting his professional poker career. He made his WSOP final table debut in 2012. In 2015, he took first place and $280,000 in a WSOP Circuit event in Cherokee, North Carolina. In addition, the poker pro won two World Poker Tour tournaments in 2017: first, the Borgata Winter Poker Open in February, where he defeated 1,312 opponents to win $892,000; second, the WPT Tournament of Champions in April, where he won $381,500.
Weinman finished in 173rd place at his first cash in the WSOP Main Event in 2021. Weinman distinguished himself at the 2022 World Series of Poker by making three final tables and earning 19 cashes. He reportedly earned $255,000 in a $1,000 Pot-Limit Omaha event when he won his first WSOP bracelet and finished second to Daniel Zack who was the winner of the award for WSOP Player of the Year.
With 81,700,000 chips, Weinman reportedly approached the final table in third place. In 2023, he won a three-way all-in pot with pocket jacks versus pocket aces. After both players landed a pair of jacks on the flop, he defeated Jones on the 164th hand of the final table and the 24th heads-up with the King of Clubs and Joker Heart suit to win the bracelet and $12.1 million in the top prize.
He is both a WPT Champions Club member and a WSOP bracelet winner and with over $15.8 million in career earnings, Weinman has career cashes dating back to 2010.
