Who Is Podesta In The Movie Pinocchio And Was He A Real Person

Fans of Guillermo del Toro are sure to fall in love with the painstakingly made stop-motion adaptation of Carlo Collodi’s 1883 Italian tale, The Adventures of Pinocchio, know who is Podesta in the movie

This fame is because Pinocchio was created unapologetically by Guillermo del Toro.

Who Is Podesta In Pinocchio And Was He A Real Person?

The Shape of Water, Crimson Peak, and Pan’s Labyrinth are just a few of the movies that the Mexican director has previously directed. He has experience incorporating more complex ideas into fairytales. He is probably the ideal director to offer a fresh interpretation of this timeless story. A story in which a man named Geppetto carves a wooden child named Pinocchio out of wood after experiencing heartbreak. The puppet has been given the gift of life when he awakens, and a morality tale follows.

The 1940 animated Disney picture is still the most well-known screen version of the novel, yet even the characters in the two movies are quite different. In connection with that, who plays Podesta in Pinocchio? Let’s talk about the character from the Netflix film.

Pinocchio’s Podesta Is Who?

A government officer of the fascist regime named Podesta (voiced by longtime Guillermo collaborator Ron Perlman) is the father of a young kid named Candlewick (Finn Wolfhard). He becomes friends with Pinocchio. The movie is set in Italy during the Great War, or World War I as it is more widely known. It ran from 1914 to 1918, which accounts for his presence in the story.

The conflict is a major factor in the plot of Pinocchio, which features historical personalities from the era. As an illustration, Pinocchio sings a patriotic song parodying Benito Mussolini. He was the National Fascist Party’s founder and leader, and in 1922 he was appointed Italy’s prime minister.

On the other side, Podesta learns that Pinocchio lives again after dying and thinks he would make the ideal soldier.

In addition to wanting to conscript Pinocchio, he also expresses the desire to keep Geppetto from going bankrupt. He also provides the wooden puppet as another reason to flee his house.

Podesta, A Real Person Or Not?

The title Podesta was given to the top magistrate of a commune in fascist Italy; it wasn’t the name of the figure, according to Collins Dictionary. In the movie, Guillermo never gives the character his real name, so it effectively implies that Podesta’s identity is based solely on his title, position, and responsibilities, with the director making comparisons between puppets and enemies.

Guillermo argues that fascist government leaders of the time were manipulating puppet strings similarly to the circus monkey Spazzatura. Considering everything, it can be said that the idea behind Podesta’s character was inspired by historical events rather than being based on a specific person. He was Guillermo’s creation; he wasn’t in the story that served as the inspiration.

In several towns in contemporary Italy, a subordinate magistrate goes by the name of “podesta.”

Guillermo’s Statement On The Same

Guillermo recently spoke with Skwigly Magazine in an interview about the undertaking. He said, “I would often get questioned, ‘Is it for kids?’ when we were pitching or presenting the movie.” It’s not made particularly for kids, but youngsters can watch it. The world is currently incredibly complicated. “Kids desire complicated solutions to grasp a complex world, not simple answers to a complex reality.”

Quentin Tarantino recently claimed on stage in San Francisco that Bambi was the most gruesome, frightful movie he had ever seen, and he is not mistaken. He added, “Even the older Pinocchio from Disney drew me in since it was the only movie I saw as a kid that showed me someone who understood how frightening and dangerous childhood might be.”

Only Netflix is offering Pinocchio for streaming.
