47-year-old Evan Vucci was born on 15 Jun, 1977. Evan Vucci was raised by a police officer and a secretary. He was born and raised in Olney, Maryland. Vucci decided to pursue a career in commercial photography in 1995 and enrolled at Rochester Institute of Technology.

He went to a talk given by photojournalist Michael Williamson. Throughout the talk, Williamson displayed his artwork and discussed his global travels while working for The Washington Post. Vucci switched his major to photography after being moved by Williamson’s photos and life story. While continuing his studies at Rochester Institute of Technology, Vucci covered sports for Reuters as a photographer.

Following his 2000 graduation from Rochester Institute of Technology, Evan Vucci relocated to Fayetteville, North Carolina, where he started working thirty hours a week at the Fayetteville Observer.

After working for a small-town newspaper for roughly three months, Vucci decided that life was not for him. Vucci accepted a position as a picture manager for the International Olympic Committee during the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia.

Vucci met then-Associated Press (AP) photographer Doug Mills while working in Sydney.

The Associated Press’s chief photographer in Washington, DC is Evan Vucci. He was a member of the AP team that won the Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Photography in 2021 for their coverage of George Floyd’s death and its aftermath and protests. The National Edward R. Murrow Award was given to his documentary video work which followed a platoon of US soldiers and their families through a 15-month combat tour in Mosul, Iraq.

Vucci has worked all around the world, but his primary area of interest is American politics these days.


Apart from his photography career, Vucci trains in mixed martial arts and participates in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu competitions as well.
