A Thai video blogger, Phonchanok Srisunaklua, is making headlines after she was arrested and sent to Jail for eating a bowl of bat soup with her video viral

The Thai YouTuber is arrested for raising fears regarding the possibility of new Pandemic viruses after she recorded herself eating a whole bat in a bowl of soup.

As per a report by Latestly, the now-deleted video saw the dead bat floating in a soup with cherry tomatoes.

The social media personality posted the 1 minute 40 second footage on her YouTube channel. However, soon enough her video went viral and she started to receive backlash from netizens.

Who’s Phonchanok Srisunaklua?

Phonchanok Srisunaklua, who’s a Thai YouTuber, came into lime-light when she uploaded the aforementioned video titled Gin Zap Bep Nua Nua.

As per reports, Phonchanok resides in Sakon Nakhon province of Thailand.

In the now deleted video, the YouTuber was seen tearing the wings of yellow bats after she stated that she bought them from a market near the Laos border in northern Thailand.

After her video went viral, the Department of Disease Control issued a public advisory not to consume bats because of potential health risks involved.

Meanwhile the Director of the Epidemiology Division of the DDC, Dr. Chakkarat Pittayawong-anont also stated that bats can easily transmit disease to humans.

He also expressed that their feces can even cause lung infections to humans.

Followed by this, a Veterinarian, Pattaraphon Manee-on, from the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, issued a statement stating that the incident shouldn’t have happened in Thailand.

His statement reads, “I was shocked to see it in the clip now. Because the incident should not happen both in Thailand and around the world, it is very risky behavior, especially as bats have a lot of pathogens.

“There is no proof that the hot water temperature will actually kill the germs. Just touching the saliva, blood, and the skin is considered a risk.”

The statement further added, “Besides the concern about the disease in bats, this woman could be guilty of breaking the Preservation and Protection and Wildlife Act, B.E. 2019, because bats are protected animals”.

For those who are unversed, let us tell you, the social media personality will be facing 5 years behind the bars alongside a fine of 500,000 baht which is equal to $13,800.

She will be facing the sentence for possessing carcasses of protected wildlife offense and violation of the Computer Crimes Act (2007) of Thailand.
