Phan Thi Kim Phuc, after so many years, has eventually recovered from her injuries. This was made possible in part by Associated Press photographer Nick Ut, who aided the girls after shooting his now-iconic shot. Fifty years after that deadly day, the couple is still in touch and using their story to convey a message of peace.
Phan Thi is first seen in the picture which was taken at the time of the war. The photograph was taken outside the village of Trang Bang on June 8, 1972. It shows the sadness and sources, it was officially titled “The Terror of War,” but later changed to ‘NAPALM GIRL PICTURE’ of merciless violence of a fight that cost a million or more innocent civilians.
Born on April 6, 1963 and currently aged 59, Phan Thị Kim Phuc is a South Vietnamese-born woman who later became a Canadian citizen and appeared in the famous war photo depicted in the Pulitzer Prize-winning photograph taken during the Vietnam War. She lived with her family in the village of Trảng Bàng in South Vietnam.
In 1982, at the age of nineteen she converted to Christianity and in 1986, she was granted permission to continue her studies in Cuba. She went onto get citizenship of Canada in 1996 where she lives with ther husband and two children.
PHAN THI KIM PHUC REFLECTS ON ‘NAPALM GIRL PICTURE
Phan Thi Kim shared her experience in the time of war (Unspeakable Evil) in an interview. She said that she hated that pic from her childhood. When she was small, she often used to think about why she was completely nude in that image. Why someone will take her pic and why her parents did not protect her. She also wondered why she was the kid in the picture who was nude, while my siblings and cousins were dressed. Phan felt dirty and humiliated at that time.
Phuc stated that she got so popular after the image came to the spotlight. She was often asked for interviews and press conferences to discuss her image and experience.
However, despite the image causing her many troubles throughout her life. Phuc says in the opinion piece that she is glad to have “become a symbol of peace.”
Phuc is still suffering from the burns he got that day, after years of surgery and treatment. She just received laser treatments in the United States, but her scars continue to cause her anguish. Phuc, who now has two children of her own, thanks her Christian faith for allowing her to keep going in life.
