Microsoft has made the calculated decision to combine its Windows and Surface groups under one management team, returning to a structure that is well-known from its Devices and Engineering division.
According to reports from newswire ANI, this move represents a change from a brief split in which the Windows team was allied with Microsoft’s new AI business.
Notably, to lead the development of Windows and Surface, the IT giant has selected Pavan Davuluri, a graduate of the esteemed IIT Madras. According to the newswire story, Davuluri, who formerly handled Microsoft’s hardware activities, would now also be in charge of heading Windows engineering.

This reorganization follows the resignation of Panos Panay, the previous head of Windows and Surface, in September of last year. Initially, Mikhail Parakhin and Davuluri shared their duties.
Nevertheless, the story notes that Parakhin—who previously served as Microsoft’s CEO of Web and Advertising—has revealed his intention to look into new ventures outside the organization, indicating a further change in the company’s leadership structure.

Pavan Davuluri is an Indian-origin executive. He has been in the news because he was recently appointed as the head of development of Windows and Surface by Microsoft.
He was born and brought up in India. However, he is currently based in Redmond, Washington, United States. After completing his schooling, he joined IIT Madras where he did a bachelor’s in engineering. Later, he went on to complete his post-graduation degree in engineering from the University of Maryland where he did his Master of Science in 1988. While his DOB isn’t known, he is believed to be aged between 55-60 years.

His career
Pavan Davuluri started his career at Microsoft in 2001 as a Reliability Component Manager and has worked his way up to take on several leadership positions throughout the course of his remarkable 23-year tenure with the company. His knowledge encompasses a wide range of topics, such as Surface devices, Windows operating systems, and PC and Xbox hardware.
Davuluri took on the crucial role of corporate vice president for Windows and Silicon & Systems Integration in 2021. In this role, he led efforts to optimize Windows for Arm-based devices and showed his proficiency in navigating the rapidly changing technological landscape.
Recently, Pavan Davuluri took on the mantle of leading Windows engineering in addition to his existing responsibilities within Microsoft’s hardware division.
