While Yamal lined up in attack alongside Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres, Cubarsi was rewarded with his full debut following a superb cameo against Unionistas in midweek.

On January 22, four days before turning seventeen, he made his FC Barcelona senior squad debut in a 3-1 Copa del Rey victory away at Unionistas. He replaced Christensen at halftime, and in his forty-five minutes on the field, he appeared composed when the ball was at his feet, demonstrated awareness of playmaking opportunities, and played strong defence when necessary.

This was only one month after he had already represented the team in a friendly match against Club Amèrica in Dallas, although an unofficial one.

According to Opta, Xavi’s starting lineup made him the first coach in La Liga this century to start two players who are younger than 17 years old. He is the team’s youngest player, along with fellow academy graduate Lamine Yamal.

Cubarsi turns 17 on Monday, and a strong performance may make it a very happy birthday and became the third-youngest player to play for Barcelona in the UEFA Youth League, behind Ilaix Moriba and Lamine Yamal.
