Who Is Patrick Thelwell University of York Student And Ex-Green Party Candidate Who Threw Eggs At King Charles

A 23-year-old who threw eggs at King Charles during their walkabout in York on Wednesday, has now been identified as Patrick Thelwell, a student at the University of York

According to reports, while Britain’s King and Queen Consort were greeting the civic party, a 23-year-old allegedly attempted to throw 3 eggs at the monarch.

For those who are unversed, let us tell you, King Charles and his wife, Queen Consort Camilla, were in York to unveil the statue of Queen Elizabeth II. It’s the first statue to be installed after the death of the Queen.

While the Monarch was greeting and shaking hands with a member of the public, the eggs reportedly flew in his direction.

After the incident 4 police officers threw the Patrick to the ground, while Thelwell seemed to be yelling, “This country was built on the blood of slaves.”

As per a report by North Yorkshire Police, the man was arrested under the suspicion of a public order offense.

Who is Patrick Thelwell?

Patrick, who’s studying International Relations at the University of York, has reportedly previously been arrested 5 times for various climate campaigns.

He is an activist, who stood as a Green Party Candidate for York City Council.

As per a report by Metro UK, back in September 2020, he was arrested and found guilty of blocking London Bridge. At the time, for the offense, he was fined £500.

As per the same outlet, Thelwell even organized a student rent strike after which he managed to become a face of hard core political ideas on campus.

Throughout his time as student, during his bachelors as well as master’s degrees, he ran multiple groups and societies including the XR branch of York.

He also ran groups like York Student Solidarity Network and an organisation called The Citizen of Earth show.

On his website, Patrick has written in his biography section that, “It took until my second year of university to truly make the link between the social values that I was so passionate about, and the overwhelming threat of climate breakdown.”

It further stated that, “It is the world’s poorest and most vulnerable who will be systemically killed by rising sea levels, heat waves, drought, extreme weather events, food shortages and the collapse of global infrastructure.”

In June 2021, following a raid by Armed Police donned in Knife and helmets in the Barbican Community Centre, Patrick was “violently” evicted.

At the time, in an interview with York Mix, Patrick expressed that, “They’ve kicked my door in. They’ve kicked my head in. My girlfriend’s crying her eyes out.”
