Late Arizona Cardinals’ legend, Pat Tillman, who left his sports career and enlisted in the US Army is making headlines after the reports surfaced that the NFL player would be honored at Super Bowl 57, know about his brother and death reason

For those who aren’t sure, let us tell you, the National Football League has announced that they will be honouring the late player with four Pat Tillman Foundation scholars.

The scholars would reportedly act as coin toss captains for Super Bowl LVII.

Who was Pat Tillman?

For those who aren’t familiar with the late player, let us tell you, Pat, whose birth name was Patrick Daniel Tillman Jr, was born in Fremont, California, U.S, on November 6, 1976.

He played for the Arizona Cardinals for the NFL after he was drafted by the League in the 1998 Draft as the 226ty pick by the team.

In his rookie season, Pat moved over to play the safety position in the team and started 10 out of a total of 16 games.

Pat is widely known for turning down a five-year $9 million contract from the St. Louis Rams out of his loyalty to Cardinals.

However, the late player had called it quits to his sports career in May, 2002 and went on to serve in the US Army. He served in the Army from 2003 to 2004 before getting killed in Afghanistan.

For those who aren’t sure, let us remind you, on April 22, 2004, Pat’s unit was ambushed and the late Corporal was killed in action while he covered for his fellow soldiers. He died aged 28. Tillman and his brother Kevin enlisted on May 31, 2002 and in September 2002, they completed basic training.

Tillman became the third professional footballer who was killed in combat followed by Bob Kalsu and Don Steinbrunner, who died during the Vietnam War.

Pat was promoted from specialist to Corporal position posthumously along with the Silver Star and Purple Heart medals.

As per earlier reports, his mother revealed that one of Pat’s friends had arranged a meeting for him with the author Noam Chomsky, after his return from Afghanistan.

Coming back to the news in hand, the late Army officer is being honored by the NFL. The foundation came into the picture to honor his memory after his tragic death.

The foundation was initiated by his friends and family members. Subsequently, the foundation became a huge agency to support the scholars and footballers across the world.
