Who is Jayanti Behera?

Track and field athlete Jayanti Behera is a Paralympian who competes for India in the women’s 200, 400, and 800-meter events. She was born on June 11, 1999, in Sakhigopal, Puri, Odisha India. The 24-year-old star measures 150 cm (59 in) tall.

When Jayanti Behera was a year old, she inadvertently fell inside a brick kiln that was on fire. She had severe second-degree burns on the left side of her upper body, a burn contracture on her left elbow, and non-functioning fingers before her mother noticed the mishap and quickly pulled her out.

At the 66th Odisha State Athletics Meet in Cuttack, in December 2018, Jayanti took home gold in the 400 metres and silver in the 800 metres.
