Manish Narwal who is a native of Ballabgarh, Haryana, took home a silver medal in the 10-meter air pistol (SH1) Para Shooting competition at the 2024 Paris Paralympics. Narwal was born with a right-hand congenital disability.

The 22-year-old Manish Narwal who had taken home the gold in the 50-meter pistol competition in Tokyo, had been in the lead for a while before he lost due to a string of low scores, giving the lead to seasoned South Korean marksman Jo Jeongdu.

The winner, Jeongdu, scored 237.4, while Narwal, the older brother of Indian pistol marksman Shiva Narwal, fired 234.9.

23-year-old Manish Narwal was born on 17 October 2001 in Haryana. He is 5ft 6in tall. Manish attended Kundan Green Valley School in Faridabad and then did bachelor’s in arts from a local college in Faridabad.

He was born to Santosh Narwal and Dilbagh Narwal and has three siblings namely Sikha Narwal, Manjeet Narwal, Shiva Narwal. Sikha and Shiva both practice shooting.

Manish Narwal career

Manish Narwal started his shooting career in Ballabhgarh in 2016. Narwal created history in the P4 mixed 50m pistol SH1 event at the 2021 Para Shooting World Cup in 2016 at Faridabad, in the state of Haryana, by breaking the world record.

In both national and international competitions, he took home multiple medals, including gold, silver, and bronze. The Arjuna Award, formally known as the Arjuna Awards for Outstanding Performance in Shooting Sports, was won by Manish in 2020. The Republic of India’s top sporting honour was the Arjuna Award. Every year, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports bestows this honour.

Coach Jai Prakash Nautiyal saw the 22-year-old’s potential right away, and with his help, Manish made his debut for his country at the 2017 Bangkok World Cup. Even with sporadic difficulties and poor results, Narwal was committed to giving his best.

Narwal has broken multiple junior and senior world records thanks to his self-motivation and unwavering ambition. He made a name for himself in the sport as a powerful force.

Disability Class: SH1 (For Pistol- Upper and/or lower limb impairment but with ability to hold their gun without difficulty and shoot from a standing or sitting position)
