Devendra Jhajharia is an Indian Paralympian javelin thrower who competes in F46 categories and the 42-year-old was born on June 10, 1981 in Rajasthan.
A look at Devendra Jhajharia’s career
Devendra Jhajharia is the first Paralympian athlete from India to win two gold medals. President Pratibha Patil awarded him the Padma Shri in 2012, making him the first Paralympian to receive the fourth-highest civilian honour in India. He was honoured by FICCI as the para-athlete of the year in 2014.
His most notable accomplishment came in the 2004 Paralympic Games in Athens, where he won a gold medal and broke the world record in the javelin with a throw of 62.15 metres. He has won many medals for his country.
Jhajharia became the second Indian to win a gold medal at the Paralympics because of his accomplishments. Jhajharia not only created history in the Paralympics by winning a gold medal twice, but he also accomplished the same feat in the Rio Paralympics in 2016.
In the 2020 Tokyo Games, he also won a silver medal. Jhajharia received the esteemed Arjuna Award in 2005 and represented India as the flag bearer at the 2016 Paralympic Games. In recognition of his accomplishments, the Rajasthani government gave him the Maharana Pratap Puraskar Award that same year.
