Authorities reportedly found Paola covered in a blanket and lying in bed while she was completely naked. She had bruises all over her body and face, giving the impression that she had been hit repeatedly. She had no signs when the cops arrived.
What did Baroni claim?
After being interrogated, Baroni admitted to the authorities that he and Paola had both been drinking beer and smoking marijuana when she confessed to having an affair. This led to the incident where Baroni claimed to have told Paola to take a shower. After Paola refused, Baroni is accused of snatching her and throwing her into the shower, where she struck her forehead before falling back and hitting her head once more.
According to Baroni, he helped her stand up and then put her down on the bed. She claimed to be cold, so he removed her clothing and covered her with a blanket, he claimed. After some time, Baroni claimed Paola asked him to bring her some cigarettes and a drink. When Baroni came back, he claimed Paola was not awake despite his initial assumption that she was sleeping.
Baroni has been detained on suspicion of murder.
Local authorities reported the incident to the Public Ministry, which is now looking into it and could potentially bring a murder prosecution against Baroni. Baroni has been detained at Juzgado Municipal Administrativo de Valle de Banderas since his arrest.
From 2000 to 2019, Baroni participated in almost two decades of professional MMA competition. In particular, “The New York Bad Ass” competed for the UFC, Pride FC, Bellator, Strikeforce, and ONE Championship. He rose to fame in the sport in the early 2000s and was once viewed as a title candidate.
Baroni had a 16–19 MMA record. He competed against several of the top fighters of his time during that time, including Frank Shamrock, Joe Riggs, Evan Tanner, Matt Lindland, Dave Menne, and others.
