Pamela Chopra, a legendary background vocalist, screenwriter, producer, and wife of renowned Indian director Yash Chopra, passed away suddenly this morning, April 20, at the age of 74.
She was reportedly on a ventilator and had spent the last two weeks at Mumbai’s Lilavati hospital. Sadly, her condition deteriorated, and she eventually passed away. Family and friends attended her funeral today at 11 a.m. in Mumbai to pay their condolences.

With heavy hearts, the Chopra family would like to inform that Pamela Chopra, 74, passed away this morning. Her cremation took place at 11 am today in Mumbai. We are grateful for your prayers and the family would like to request for privacy in this moment of deep sadness and reflection (sic).

She was born in 1948 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, as Pamela Singh. Her father’s name is Mohinder Singh, who is an officer in the Indian Army, whereas her mother’s name is not known. In her family, she has two younger brothers. She completed her schooling at several army schools.
Pamela Chopra was married, and her husband’s name was Yash Chopra, a renowned filmmaker. They were the parents of two sons named Aditya Chopra, a well-known filmmaker, and Uday Chopra, a Bollywood actor.
She passed away on April 20, 2023, in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. At the time of her death, she was 74 years old.
Her career
Pamela Chopra was a multi-talented individual with a deep connection to the Indian film industry. Her notable contributions include lending her voice to several film songs, all of which were featured in her husband’s films, spanning from ‘Kabhie Kabhie’ (1976) to ‘Mujhse Dosti Karoge!’ (2002).
While she was credited as a “producer” in some of her husband’s films, she independently produced the 1993 film ‘Aaina.’ Pamela also co-wrote the script of her husband’s 1997 hit film ‘Dil To Pagal Hai,’ along with Yash Chopra, their son Aditya Chopra, and writer Tanuja Chandra.
She appeared on screen just once, in the opening song ‘Ek Duje Ke Vaaste’ of ‘Dil To Pagal Hai,’ alongside her husband.
