The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have officially announced the appointment of age 46 Omkar Salvi as their new bowling coach for their men’s team, find out more below

Salvi, who is currently serving as Mumbai’s head coach will join RCB in March 2025 before the IPL 2025 season.

Omkar Salvi bio

Omkar Salvi is an Indian cricket coach who is all set to serve as the new bowling coach for RCB. He is currently 46-years-old and has had a transformative year, leading Mumbai to a historic Ranji Trophy title win. Mumbai secured their first title in eight years and also secured the Irani Cup earlier this year along with the IPL trophy with KKR. Omkar is the younger brother of former India international Avishkar Salvi who is the women’s Indian national cricket team current bowling coach.

Avishkar also played four matches for India and was a part of the Delhi IPL team in 2009.

Before venturing into coaching, Omkar played domestic cricket for the Railways team but played just one list A match against Madhya Pradesh in Indore back in 2005. He took a wicket in the 6 overs he bowled in that match along with conceding 36 runs.

It was in May 2023 that Salvi was appointed as Mumbai’s head coach for the senior men’s team, replacing Amol Muzumdar. Omkar was the team’s bowling coach prior to that.

46 year old Omkar has a height of 6 feet 1 inch and is married to wife Sujata with whom he has a son named Mayank. His father Madhav was an amateur cricketer.

Omkar Salvi appointed as new RCB bowling coach

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have appointed Omkar Salvi as their new bowling coach. The franchise officially confirmed the news on social media, stating:

Omkar, who has won the Ranji Trophy, Irani Trophy, and the IPL in the last 8 months, is excited to join us in time for #IPL2025.”

The appointment comes just ahead of the upcoming IPL 2025 season, sparking excitement among RCB fans. Notably, Salvi will reunite alongside Dinesh Karthik, who is RCB’s newly-appointed batting coach and mentor. The pair previously worked together at KKR. RCB are still looking to secure their maiden IPL title and will be hoping the duo can deliver it. Following his appointment, RCB Director of Cricket Mo Bobat stated:

With his vast experience, technical expertise, and leadership, Omkar Salvi is the perfect fit for our coaching team. He will add immense value to our squad.”

Omkar Salvi career

Salvi is currently contracted with the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) up until March 2025. He has previously worked as an assistant bowling coach for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Over the years, Salvi has built a reputation for nurturing fast-bowling talent and also has a deep understanding of Indian domestic cricket.

Just earlier this year, he helped the Mumbai team secure a historic Ranji Trophy title win and the Irani Cup. RCB have reportedly appointed Omkar Salvi in the hopes of securing a title win in the upcoming seasons.
