Old Trafford released a statement expressing the club’s happiness with the appointment and outlining their clear objective to put football and on-field performance first in every facet of their business. The club views Omar’s signing as the first step toward becoming a championship-winning squad again.
With his resignation, Berrada gave up his previous position as head of football operations at City Football Group, where he was in charge of the English champions and a global portfolio of teams. Manchester City acknowledged his decision, expressing understanding and extending gratitude for his contributions, accompanied by best wishes for his future endeavors.
The hiring of Berrada to Manchester United is one of the first significant moves made by British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe, who paid $1.3 billion to purchase a 25% share of United. Since Richard Arnold left at the end of the previous year, United has been operating without a permanent CEO; thus, this decision comes at a critical moment.
Since then, Omar Berrada has become the talk of the town, with many people trying to find out more about him. So, here’s what we know about him:
Who is Omar Berrada?
46 year Omar Berrada is a renowned football executive. He has been in the news because Manchester United officially announced his appointment as the club’s new CEO.
He was born in Paris to Moroccan parents. After going through the American educational system, Berrada took a somewhat unusual path from college dropout to football bigwig. Berrada resided in Barcelona for the last year of his three-year term at EU Business School after deciding to leave a Massachusetts engineering institution to attend the school.
His career
After more than fifteen years in Catalonia, Omar Berrada had important positions with Honda, Tiscali, and finally La Liga’s top team, Barcelona. From January 2004 until August 2011, he oversaw Camp Nou’s sponsorship department and was present during the team’s dominating period under manager Pep Guardiola.
He began working for City Football Group (CFG) in 2011, first supervising international business growth. In 2016, he was appointed chief operations officer of CFG. Berrada’s departure from Manchester City is comparable to Peter Kenyon’s 2003 move to Chelsea, since he was regarded as essential to City’s achievements both on and off the field.
Now, he is appointed as the new CEO of Manchester United.
