First female Division I baseball player in history, Olivia Pichardo, tossed the opening pitch during a Red Sox game, here is all about her, know her parents, pitch speed, nationality, bio

At a Division I varsity baseball game on Wednesday night in Boston’s Fenway Park, Brown University’s Olivia Pichardo was the first female player to play in a Division I collegiate baseball game.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, Brown was down Bryant University 10-1 and Pichardo was given the opportunity to bat.

When Pichardo stepped into the batter’s box as a left-handed batter, she created NCAA history.

The Red Sox wanted to recognise her achievement, so they asked her to throw out the first pitch before their matchup with the Toronto Blue Jays.

Even though not all of Pichardo’s pitch was accurate, she took the mound and delivered one in the direction of home plate. She however ignored it and probably showed some velocities in front of the enthused Boston crowd.

Pichardo, a native of Queens, is known as a versatile player for the Brown Bears. She’s only played in one game as a freshman and is currently waiting in the stands for her opportunity to see more action.

Before enrolling at an Ivy League university, Pichardo participated in last summer’s USA Baseball Women’s National Team competition.

She played volleyball and basketball at the Garden School from the seventh grade to the completion of her high school career.

But her interest in baseball dates back to her time as a child, as seen by the internship she held in 2022 with the New York Mets’ amateur scouting section.
