On Wednesday, August 2nd, in the afternoon, the bodies of the off-duty officer and his father were discovered in Martinez’s apartment, located on the fourth floor at 172nd Street and Fteley Avenue in the Bronx.

The distressing discovery was made after Martinez, known to be a baseball enthusiast among his peers, failed to show up for a scheduled game. Concerned, a friend decided to check on him, leading to the grim find.
Who was Alexis Martinez?
In the NYPD ranks, Martinez was known as a dedicated narcotics officer. Beyond his commitment to the force, his presence was also felt on the baseball diamond, as he was an active member of a team comprised of fellow officers.
According to preliminary investigations, it’s believed that Martinez’s father fatally shot him while he was asleep in the Soundview apartment, before tragically turning the gun on himself. The incident reportedly occurred around 12:45 p.m. Also disturbingly, there were others in the apartment at the time — a pregnant woman and her relative. Their relationship to Martinez and his father remains uncertain, and further details regarding the woman’s condition post the incident have not been fully disclosed.
A spokesperson from NYPD hinted at the possible mental distress the father may have been undergoing, saying he “may have been suffering from mental illness.”
