Though, Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, helped the Indian Olympian in reducing her weight, however, their combined efforts were unfortunately unsuccessful as on Wednesday morning, Vinesh Phogat, who was considered as a gold medal contender was disqualified from the finals due to 100 grams overweight at the Olympics 2024.

What Exactly Happened?
For the curious, Vinesh was set to face America’s Sarah Ann Hildebrandt in the gold medal match of the 50kg category in women’s wrestling at the Paris Olympics.
On Tuesday morning, before her first bout, Vinesh weighed 49.90 kilograms, which allowed her to compete in the initial match.
She played three consecutive bouts on the same day and secured a place in the final.
However, after winning the semifinal, Vinesh’s weight suddenly increased to approximately 52.7 kilograms, causing panic in the Indian wrestling camp.
Renowned doctor Dinshaw Pardiwala who is India’s Chief Medical Officer at the games was consulted to help reduce her weight, but their efforts were unsuccessful.
Everyone was concerned about how to reduce Vinesh Phogat’s weight. The night before the final, Vinesh could not sleep.

Despite the best efforts of the Indian contingent’s Chef de Mission, Gagan Narang, Dinshaw Pardiwala, Vinesh’s husband, physio, medical staff, and IOA officials, they could not achieve the desired result.
Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala even mentioned that they could not risk her life. Vinesh had become the first Indian female wrestler to reach the final in wrestling at the Olympics.
About Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala
Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala came to the spotlight after he recently performing a surgery on Indian cricket team wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant. He has also worked with legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Yuvraj Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravindra Jadeja.
He is a sports orthopedic surgeon with 22 years of experience and is the Director of Arthroscopy and Shoulder Service at Kokilaben Hospital in Mumbai.
In 2009, he was honored with the ISAKOS John Joyce Award for his outstanding contribution to arthroscopic surgery.
As per the official website of Livonta Global, Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala has so far, performed more than 1600 surgeries and over 3000 Arthroscopic procedures.
As per the site, Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, is the first Indian surgeon who was invited in Seoul, Korea, for a live surgical demonstration.
Dr Dishaw is a member of BCCI’s medical panel and is the director of arthroscopy, sports orthopaedics and shoulder service and head, Centre for Sports Medicine.
His educational degrees are MBBS, MS(Orthopaedics), DNB(Orthopaedics), FCPS and speaks four languages: Hindi, English, Gujarati and Marathi.
He works at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, Mumbai, India and is an active member of the Indian Arthroscopy Association, and Shoulder & Elbow Society of India.
Pardiwala’s consultation fee is Rs 2500.
