Who won in the DU elections?

After a seven-year gap, NSUI’s candidate, Rounak Khatri, secured the presidential seat, defeating the RSS-backed Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) candidate Rishabh Chaudhary by a margin of over 1,300 votes. Khatri garnered 20,207 votes, while Chaudhary followed with 18,864. This victory represents a notable shift in student politics at Delhi University.

Meanwhile, the ABVP held its ground by winning the vice president’s post and retaining the secretary position, thereby maintaining a strong presence within the union. ABVP’s vice president candidate, Bhanu Pratap Singh, emerged triumphant with 24,166 votes, significantly ahead of NSUI’s Yash Nandal, who garnered 15,404 votes. Similarly, Mitravinda Karanwal of the ABVP secured the secretary’s post with 16,703 votes, defeating NSUI’s Namrata Jeph Meena.

Who is Rounak Khatri?

Age 22 Faculty of Law, Delhi University law student Rounak Khatri, popularly known as the ‘Matka Man of DU,’ earned this title for his initiative of placing water pots across the campus to address the drinking water crisis during the scorching summer. He even filed a petition in court to tackle water issues on campus, successfully resolving them.
