The achievement helped him secure a trip to London and a call-up to Nigeria’s U15 team. Awoniyi later joined the U17s and played a key role in helping Nigeria win the 2013 U17 World Cup.
Despite facing setbacks due to work permit issues, Liverpool finally signed him but immediately went out on loan to FSV Frankfurt. Following which he went out on loans to NEC, Mouscron, Gent, Mainz 05, and Union Berlin.
