Kerr started out as a college basketball player, eventually working up to the role of a member of GSW’s coaching staff in the NBA.
Nick Kerr joins Golden State Warriors
Nick Kerr has officially joined the Golden State Warriors as a member of the coaching staff under his father, head coach Steve Kerr. The move marks another significant step up in his coaching career. However, the appointment has sparked backlash amongst many fans as well owing to his relationship with the team’s head coach.

Nicholas Zwicker Kerr who also goes by Nick is an American basketball coach who was born on November 9, 1992, in Cleveland, Ohio. Kerr grew up around basketball and developed a strong interest in the game at an early age. Despite being the son of coach Steve Kerr, Nick has carved out his own path and gained experience both on the court and on the sidelines.
Head coach of the Golden State Warriors Steve Kerr has three children with his wife of over 30 years, Margot Brennan Kerr, Nick, Madeleine and Matthew and their oldest child is Nick Kerr. Like his father, he also pursued a career in basketball and is now in coaching and the entire family lives in the Bay Area.
Nick has two younger siblings, Maddy and Matthew and Nick and his sister Maddy are both into sports but while he pursued basketball, Maddy Kerr became a volleyball star and captain of her college team. In addition to athletics, she also focused on her studies and is now a lawyer who passed the State Bar of California.
Maddy obtained a bachelor’s degree in media studies and rhetoric at Berkeley in 2017 and from 2018 to 2021, she attended Berkeley’s School of Law and graduated in 2021. Afterward, she spent a year in Paris and obtained her MBA at HEC Paris.
Matthew Kerr meanwhile attended USC film school and studied screenwriting and comedy TV writing.

Education
During his childhood, Nick Kerr attended Torrey Pines High School in San Diego, California, and graduated in 2011. After completing his high school, he later played college basketball at the University of San Diego (2011–2015). He later transferred to the University of California, Berkeley, during the 2015-2016 season, where he served as a graduate assistant coach at Cal during the 2016–2017 season.
Nick attended the University of San Diego from 2011 to 2015, where he studied business administration and played on the college’s basketball team and then moved to the Bay Area after he was accepted into Berkeley’s School of Public Health graduate program.
After graduating from Berkeley, Nick moved to San Antonio, where he worked for a year in the Spurs organization and afterward, he returned to the Bay Area and began working for the Warriors as a video coordinator.
He played college basketball at the University of San Diego from 2011 to 2015. Nick is married to Kendall with the two getting married in September 2021 but nothing else is known about his wife.
Career and stats
Nick Kerr first started out as a college player, with modest stats. However, he showed consistency and reliability, playing 13 games as a freshman during his time at San Diego. He played a career high of 21 games in the 2013-2014 season, making 47.6% of his three-point shots. Kerr then scored a career-high 12 points during a game against Pacific before transferring to Cal as a walk-on. During his time there, he played in seven games and scored nine points with 50% shooting from the field.
Nick eventually transitioned to coaching right after college and interned with the San Antonio Spurs in 2018. He then joined the Golden State Warriors as a player development and video coordinator. During the 2021 season, Nick became an assistant coach with the Santa Cruz Warriors, a G League affiliate. The following year, in 2023, he got promoted to the position of head coach of Santa Cruz.
