French referee Stéphanie Frappart was in charge of the first-ever all-female officiating crew for a men’s World Cup game on Thursday, know about Neuza Back, her photos and Instagram
The FIFA World Cup match in Qatar between Germany and Costa Rica was overseen by referee Frappart.
As part of the all-female refereeing crew, Neuza Back of Brazil and Karen Diaz Medina of Mexico assisted Frappart. The 44th of the 64 games taking place in Qatar was the one for which FIFA made the historic selections.

Neuza Back: Who is She?
Born on August 11, 1984, Neuza Back is a Brazilian football player. Guerino Back and Carmelita Back’s daughter is named Neuza. She agreed to her brother André Luiz’s request to start judging amateur matches held by the Liga Maravilhense deesportivas, a club of the Santa Catarina Football Federation, in 2005 while still completing her studies in physical education. She later joined the organisation.
In the 2008 Campeonato Catarinense, she made her professional football debut. During the same year, she also obtained a second invitation for the assessment that would determine the female staff of the Brazilian Football Confederation.
She decided to invest in her career in 2008 and pursued progress in a six-month course in Balneário Cambori, where she earned the credential for coming in first place in her class at the yearly referee training course offered by the Catarinense Football Federation. Additionally, Neuza Back was already selected to serve on the 2020 FIFA World Cup panel as well as the Tokyo Olympics jury.
During a Copa del Rey match between Botafogo and Vasco in 2020, she was made fun of by Botafogo idol Jairzinho. The organisation with which the assistant is affiliated, Paulista Union Football (FPF), released a document in support of Back and referred to it as one of the key professionals in activism in the country.
She took part in the 2019 Athletico-PR vs. Internacional Copa do Brasil final’s opening leg. Additionally, she participated in the Women’s World Cup, representing the United States versus England in the semifinals.
Debut in officiating
She made her international debut in a men’s game in 2020, and in a FIFA adult men’s competition in 2021, she and Edina Alves made up the first women’s trio. She participated as a reserve assistant in the quarterfinal game between Ulsan Hyundai and Al Duhail.
One of six women selected to compete in the World Cup for the first time in 2022 and work as an assistant at the World Cup in Qatar. She is paid a base salary of $70,000 at the world cup and $3,000 per match.
