GoFundMe generates more than $65,000 in response to the death of NCAA hockey player Jori Jones due to a car accident
On August 20, 2023, Jori Jones, an NCAA hockey player, passed away after being hurt in a car accident in Minnesota. Gianna Gasparini, Kayla Bluhm, and Lily Mortenson, three other members of Jones’ team, were also hurt in the incident.

According to StarTribune, the accident occurred at a rural junction in central-western Minnesota. Gasparini was in the driver’s seat when Jori and her teammates’ automobile collided with a minivan on the motorway.
According to the State Patrol, Gasparini was unable to use the brake as the vehicle approached the junction, which caused it to crash. The crash site was quickly reached by emergency personnel, and all four victims were sent to the Montevideo Hospital.

Brandi Rasmussen, the driver of the minivan, asserted that the impact caused her to be propelled into the air. Brandi could not see the car coming and was struck by it, according to the New York Post. She also sustained some scrapes and bruises as a result of the collision.
GoFundMe page for Jori Jones’ funeral expenses earns $72,103
Andrea Schmidt, the activities director at Roseville Area High School, called Jori Jones a “fantastic person and student.”
Gretchen Hopeman, the president of the Roseville Area Youth Hockey Association, started a GoFundMe page after Jori passed away to pay for her funeral. According to the website, Jones was renowned for her “infectious smile and genuine spirit.” The post read:
“We, as neighbors and hockey family from Roseville and Gustavus, are deeply saddened to share the tragic news of Jori Jones, a beloved Raider Alumni and current Gustavus Student Athlete, who tragically lost her life in a recent car accident. Jori was a talented athlete and a beautiful soul, known for her infectious smile and genuine spirit.”
It further stated:
The Jones family has been an integral part of our community, and our hearts go out to Britt, Jon, Kylie, and Beckam during this incredibly difficult time.”
In order to support Jori’s family, the message invited readers to donate to the fund. As of this writing, the GoFundMe page has received 852 donations and has raised $72,103 of its $85,000 goal.
Who was Jori Jonas?
According to People, Jori Jones played for the Gustavus Adolphus College women’s hockey team. She joined the National Honour Society and participated in a number of tournaments and events as Roseville’s representative.The Roseville Area Youth Hockey Association included her father as a coach.
