The Intelligence Bureau (IB) played a crucial role in providing information that led to Pal’s arrest. Officials claim that Pal used the messaging service WhatsApp to send a woman he had met online sensitive information.
Further research revealed that the IP address tracked back to Karachi, Pakistan, even though the virtual phone number connected to the woman’s WhatsApp account looked to come from Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh.
Early investigations have revealed that Naveen claimed to have made an internet acquaintance named Anjali, with whom he later had talks and exchanged phone numbers. Anjali claimed to be from Kolkata, but after more investigation, the police found unusual transactions in Pal’s bank account, suggesting that he had been paid for divulging private papers.
Preliminary research indicates that Naveen Pal has been in touch with this woman for around two months. Authorities have traced around 85 thousand rupees to his bank account. Authorities believe that the person acting as Anjali may not be from Kolkata but may instead have ties to Pakistan or the ISI.

Naveen Pal is a former Indian government employee. He has been in the news because he was recently arrested on charges of espionage.
His hometown is Bhimnagar, which is close to the Crossings Republic in the Uttar Pradesh city of Ghaziabad. In the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he was an MTS (Multipurpose Staff).
Naveen Pal has been charged under the IT Act’s section 66F, which expressly covers cyber terrorism, as well as sections 3, 5, and 9 of the Government Secrets Act of 1923. On 10 July, at about 4:15 p.m., he was arrested on Taj Highway, close to Shani Mandir.
